Business Leaders Praise Marcos’ Decision to Keep Economic Team Intact

Two of the Philippines’ top business organizations—the Makati Business Club (MBC) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)—have expressed strong support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s decision to retain his core economic team.

After calling for Cabinet courtesy resignations, Marcos opted to keep key economic officials, including Trade Secretary Cristina Roque, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, and Investment Affairs Special Assistant Frederick Go.

MBC executive director Apa Ongpin said the move ensures continuity and stability in the administration’s economic policies. “We’ve seen collaborative and productive engagements with these departments, and we welcome their continued leadership,” Ongpin stated.

PCCI echoed the sentiment, praising the team’s role in sustaining economic momentum despite global challenges. The group said the decision demonstrates a commitment to reform continuity and strengthens investor confidence.

Additionally, PCCI voiced support for Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla’s transfer to lead the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), citing his proven competence and pragmatic leadership in balancing clean energy goals with energy security.

Undersecretary Sharon Garin will serve as officer-in-charge at the Department of Energy in the interim.
