BYD unveiled its latest hybrid sedan, the Seal 5 DM-i, during a grand launch event at the BGC Amphitheater on Thursday, November 20. With a claimed range of 1,645 kilometers on a full charge and full tank, the sedan aims to set new standards for electric vehicles (EVs) in the Philippines.
The Seal 5 DM-i features BYD’s DM-i technology, which combines an electric battery, motor, and petrol engine for extended range and reliability. BYD Philippines Managing Director Bob Palanca highlighted the sedan’s performance, saying, “You’re safe because you can charge the battery using the engine.”

The launch coincided with BYD’s 30th anniversary and the production of its 10-millionth New Energy Vehicle (NEV). BYD has achieved this milestone faster than any other automaker, producing the latest five million NEVs in just 15 months.
Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala, CEO of ACMobility (BYD Philippines), emphasized the importance of making EVs mainstream:
