BYD Launches Seal 5 DM-i Sedan, Claims 1,645 km on Single Charge and Full Tank

BYD unveiled its latest hybrid sedan, the Seal 5 DM-i, during a grand launch event at the BGC Amphitheater on Thursday, November 20. With a claimed range of 1,645 kilometers on a full charge and full tank, the sedan aims to set new standards for electric vehicles (EVs) in the Philippines.

Hybrid Power and Impressive Range

The Seal 5 DM-i features BYD’s DM-i technology, which combines an electric battery, motor, and petrol engine for extended range and reliability. BYD Philippines Managing Director Bob Palanca highlighted the sedan’s performance, saying, “You’re safe because you can charge the battery using the engine.”

Recent range tests confirmed:

• Premier Variant: Achieved 1,645 km (priced at ₱1.198 million)
• Dynamic Variant: Covered 1,508 km (priced at ₱948,000)

Design and Features

The BYD Seal 5 DM-i boasts a sleek, aerodynamic design with bold LED headlights, full-width LED taillights, and a spacious interior supported by a 2,718 mm wheelbase. Key features include:

• Infotainment: 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Premium Sound: Eight-speaker system for the Premier variant
• Driver Information: 8.8-inch LCD gauge cluster

Performance Specs

• Dynamic Variant: 179 PS, 316 Nm torque, 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds
• Premier Variant: 197 PS, 325 Nm torque, 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds
  Both models deliver exceptional ranges, with the Premier variant reaching up to 1,240 km and the Dynamic variant up to 1,175 km, ideal for daily commutes and long trips.

EV Market Growth and Milestones

The launch coincided with BYD’s 30th anniversary and the production of its 10-millionth New Energy Vehicle (NEV). BYD has achieved this milestone faster than any other automaker, producing the latest five million NEVs in just 15 months.
