The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) said airfares are expected to go at a lower price due to a reduction in the fuel surcharge in January 2023.
Likewise, air travel will become more widely available and affordable for travelers.
“On January 1, the fuel surcharge level will go down to 7. That’s a big thing for our riding public,” CAB executive director Carmello Arcilla said.
“We hope this continues, although the prices are volatile in the global market, and we cannot predict them, that’s why this up-down trend,” he added.
Arcilla mentioned that the lower fuel surcharge would depend on the distance traveled, but he emphasized that the difference would be “significant.”
According to CAB Resolution No. 25, which provides the fuel surcharge matrix, the Level 7 rate ranges from ₱219-₱739 per one-way domestic flight and ₱722.71-₱5,373.69 per one-way international flight. The fuel surcharge matrix ranges from Level 0 to 20.
