Cebu Pacific Inks P1.4 Trillion Deal for 152 Aircraft Purchase

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ leading budget carrier, has signed a monumental agreement with Airbus and Pratt & Whitney for the purchase of 152 aircraft, valued at over P1.4 trillion. The deal is the largest in the history of Philippine aviation.

During a ceremony held in Pasay City, Cebu Pacific CEO Michael Szucs, alongside Airbus Executive Vice President Benoît de Saint-Exupéry and Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines President Rick Deurloo, formalized the purchase agreement. The order includes 102 A321neo aircraft and 50 from the A320 family, all powered by Pratt & Whitney engines.

This acquisition, which has a minimum commitment of 70 aircraft, is valued at approximately $24 billion (P1.4 trillion). According to Szucs, the purchase highlights Cebu Pacific’s commitment to operational efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. “This milestone signals our ongoing dedication to expanding air travel accessibility and affordability while supporting the Philippines’ broader economic growth and connectivity goals,” he said.

Airbus praised the long-standing partnership with Cebu Pacific, noting the airline’s confidence in their aircraft. The A321neo is particularly valued for its fuel efficiency, performance, and economics, which are expected to boost Cebu Pacific’s expansion as a leading low-cost carrier in the Asia-Pacific region.

Rick Deurloo of Pratt & Whitney emphasized the significance of this order for aviation in the Philippines and the wider region. He highlighted the GTF engines’ fuel efficiency and sustainability benefits, which will support Cebu Pacific’s growth in both domestic and international markets.
