Last Monday, Congress leaders moved to approve 30 bills recognized by the current administration as top priorities. These would include the National Government rightsizing program, and the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Law.
President Marcos Jr. gathered the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) which consists of 20 members for the first time in his term.
In this meeting, the LEDAC highlighted 32 bills in the common legislative agenda. Out of the 32 bills, 20 were identified by Marcos Jr. as priority measures in his first State of the Nation Address.
The other twelve measures were added by leaders of Congress and included the SIM Registration Act and the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections postponement.
Rep. Martin G. Romualdez, House Speaker, has said that legislators will give the “utmost priority” to the 30 bills in the common legislative agenda.
He says that “The House is in full support of the President’s entire legislative agenda, including the key priority measures for legislation he has asked Congress to consider. We will act on these with dispatch,”
In a separate statement, Senate President Juan Miguel F. Zubiri mentioned that the House and the Senate have concurred to approve six out of the 30 measures by the end of the year. These would include the Condonation of Unpaid Amortization and Interest on Loans of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries, mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and National Service Training Program (ROTC/NSTP, Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines, National Disease Prevention Management Authority/Center for Disease Prevention and Control, Medical Reserve Corps, and the BOT Law.
