The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Subport of Mactan confiscated JP¥10 million (approximately US$69,065) from a Korean passenger at Mactan-Cebu International Airport. The undeclared foreign currency was seized for violating cross-border currency regulations.
In compliance with Philippine law, the BOC allowed the passenger to keep JP¥1,480,000 (around US$10,000), the legally permitted amount, but recommended a warrant of seizure for the remaining JP¥8,520,000.
BOC-Subport of Mactan Collector Gerardo Campo reminded travelers to adhere to currency declaration rules to avoid legal repercussions. Travelers must declare amounts exceeding US$10,000 through the E-Travel system and the Foreign Currency Declaration Form.
