DA, DOT Unite to Promote Food and Farm Tourism, Targeting Rural Revival and Jobs

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) are teaming up to promote “food and farm tourism” across the Philippines, aiming to draw more tourists, stimulate rural economies, and create jobs.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the collaboration aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s development goals. The partnership will target quick-impact projects like organic farming, aquaculture, livestock, and mariculture, alongside critical infrastructure such as farm-to-market roads, cold storage, greenhouses, and ice plants.

“We also have funding for restoring the Banaue Rice Terraces. Just tell us where support is needed,” Tiu Laurel added.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco emphasized four focus areas: gastronomy tourism, farm tourism growth, infrastructure and access improvements, and local supply chain enhancement.

A technical working group has been formed to create a detailed roadmap within six months. Initial pilot areas include Bohol, Iloilo, and Benguet—regions known for rich culinary and agricultural heritage.

The DA noted that both tourism and agriculture sectors contribute nearly 10% each to the national GDP and together represent around 30% of total employment, reinforcing the importance of the initiative.
