The Department of Agriculture (DA) has broadened the reach of its Kadiwa ng Pangulo Rice-for-All program, which offers well-milled rice at ₱40 per kilo, to additional public markets and train stations in Metro Manila.
Following its initial rollout in five markets and select train stations last week, the program now includes nine more sites:
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. stated that the program supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vision of providing affordable rice to Filipinos. “This program ensures rice prices reflect true market conditions and protects consumers from unscrupulous businessmen,” Laurel said.
The initiative is part of the broader Kadiwa ng Pangulo program, a partnership between the DA’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service and Food Terminal Inc. (FTI).
Laurel clarified that the ₱40 rice program is distinct from the ₱29 rice initiative, which specifically aids vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, PWDs, solo parents, and indigents.
The DA plans to extend the kiosks to more cities and municipalities in the coming weeks to maintain fair rice pricing, especially after tariff reductions from 35% to 15% in July 2024.
The Rice-for-All program is poised to reach more Filipinos, fulfilling the government’s promise of accessible and affordable staple food for all.
