Manila, Philippines – The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to conclude its study on implementing a maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for pork by the end of February, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. announced Monday.
“Two weeks from now, probably, or by the end of February should be enough time,” Laurel said during a Palace press briefing.
The study was among the topics discussed during a meeting with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who showed particular interest in the rising costs of pork and eggs.
The DA is also investigating possible profiteering as pork prices remain high, with liempo at P480 per kilogram and pigue at P420 per kilogram. Despite these price levels, the DA reassured consumers that the country’s pork supply remains stable.
