DA Triples Monthly Allocation for P29/kg Rice to 30 Kilos Per Beneficiary

MANILA — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has tripled the monthly allocation of rice under its P29-per-kilo program, allowing eligible beneficiaries to purchase up to 30 kilos per month.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. announced the update during the “Trabaho at Serbisyong Pangkalusugan sa Bagong Pilipinas” event, saying the new policy takes effect nationwide immediately.

“We urge the public, especially those in vulnerable sectors, to take advantage of this policy aimed at making food more affordable,” Tiu Laurel said.

The P29/kg rice, sourced from the National Food Authority’s buffer stock, is available exclusively at Kadiwa stores and centers. The program prioritizes low-income and marginalized groups, including senior citizens, PWDs, solo parents, and indigents.

Originally launched in July 2024 as a mass trial in Metro Manila and Bulacan, the program was designed to address food insecurity and help cushion the impact of inflation on basic goods.

Meanwhile, the DA also continues its Rice-for-All Program, open to the general public, offering rice at various price points based on grain quality—from P33 to P43 per kilo.
