Diplomatic Insights: Brian Poe Llamanzares Joins US Global Security Study Program

Brian Poe Llamanzares, a Filipino public servant, philanthropist, and businessman, recently took part in the U.S. Global Security and Development Study program held on February 27. This program provided a platform for insightful discussions and valuable learning experiences, deepening the understanding of crucial issues surrounding international security and global development.

Throughout the five-day program, Poe Llamanzares engaged in various activities geared towards broadening his perspective on global security and development issues. He attended briefings at key institutions, including the Philippine Embassy, the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, and the U.S. National Defense University. These sessions not only facilitated learning but also contributed to strengthening diplomatic ties between the Philippines and the United States.

Poe Llamanzares delved deeper into discussions on regional security issues, modernization strategies, and multilateral diplomacy during his visit to esteemed institutions such as the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Pentagon. He also explored topics related to cybersecurity and trade at the National Cyber Security Center of Excellence and the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office, further enriching his understanding of global security dynamics.

A highlight of the program came on the fourth day when Poe Llamanzares led a discussion at the United States Department of State, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. The conversation focused on identifying opportunities for development in the region, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts. Following this, he visited the Institute of Peace, where he received recognition for his peace-building efforts in Mindanao and explored potential avenues for collaboration.

On the fifth and final day of the program, Poe Llamanzares participated in briefings at the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations, engaging in discussions on pressing international issues such as conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine, and the West Philippine Sea. Additionally, he had the privilege of attending a briefing at the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations, providing him with an opportunity to exchange views on foreign policy with senior military fellows. The program concluded with an exclusive tour of the United Nations, where Poe Llamanzares had the unique opportunity to visit the Security Council and stand at the podium in front of the General Assembly. 

Reflecting on his experience, he emphasized the importance of international cooperation and dialogue in addressing critical humanitarian issues and fostering a safer and more peaceful world.
