DITO Telecommunity has recently broken ground for its new data center modeled after the Google campus at Clark Global City in Pampanga, the telco company said on Tuesday. The project will be developed along with Udenna Land Inc.

The data center, which is situated within its 8-hectare headquarters, is expected to house a network operations center, a call center, a regional center, and a research and development segment, DITO explained in a statement.

“The DITO Data Center is a critical component to sustain DITO’s commercial operations center… and this must be located in an ideal location,” said Benedicto Lacsamana, DITO’s Project Management Office Lead.

According to DITO, the hub will generate “thousands” of jobs upon completion. It also launched its commercial services in Visayas and Mindanao last month. Clark Global City, which will house DITO’s central telecommunication infrastructure, is a “key area” in its infrastructure rollout, the firm explained.

DITO is the country’s third telco that’s attempting to compete with the duopoly of Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc. The firm is already mounting its nationwide network in hopes of addressing the various complaints its two competitors have been receiving including slow internet speeds and poor reception in certain areas.

Udenna Land Inc’s Clark Global City is predicted to be one of the genuinely “smart cities” in the country, said the company. The area is also in close proximity to Clark International Airport and other transport hubs, it added.

DITO’s commercial services would become available in Luzon “in a few weeks” after going online in Visayas and Mindanao, according to DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano.

The telco is operated by Dennis Uy in partnership with China Telecom. After registering a minimum broadband speed of 507.5 Mbps for its 5G service and a minimum speed of 85.9 Mbps for its 4G service, the company passed its first-year commitment through a technical audit.

Data from the National Telecommunications Commission presented that DITO also surpassed its initial first-year commitment of covering 37% of the country’s population when it reached 37.5% coverage.
