The Ukrainian government has opened itself to accepting donations in DOGE as the meme coin “exceeded Russian ruble in value,” announced Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov. The price of the ruble has been lower than DOGE since January 2021, but it has significantly slumped even further following the sanctions implemented by the U.S. and the European Union.

@dogecoin exceeded Russian ruble in value. We start to accept donations in meme coin. Now even meme can support our army and save lives from Russian invaders. $DOGE owners of the world, @elonmusk, @BillyM2k, let’s do it. Crypto users who have sent funds to the country are expected to be the recipients of an airdrop on Thursday, according to Ukraine’s official Twitter account. Although, the contents of the airdrop are still unknown. “Airdrop confirmed. Snapshot will be taken tomorrow, on March 3rd, at 6 pm Kyiv time (UTC/GMT +2 hours). Reward to follow! Follow subsequent news re Ukraine’s crypto donation campaign at @FedorovMykhailo,” tweeted the official account of Ukraine.

Since Russia’s invasion on Thursday, February 24, both Fedorov and the country’s official Twitter account have solicited crypto donations for Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Polkadot (DOT), and Tether (USDT). Other organizations — including non-government organization Come Back Alive, UkraineDAO, and activist-led Unchain Fund — have likewise rallied behind Ukraine urging users to donate crypto funds for the country. Subsequently, Ukraine has received crypto donations amounting to around $79.5 million based on blockchain records.
