A core developer for the Dogecoin Foundation, Ross Nicoll, announced that will step away from the cryptocurrency project and remain as an advisor. He has cited “overwhelming” stress and a potential conflict of interest as reasons for this decision.

The Dogecoin Foundation is a nonprofit organization that aims to support the development of meme coins and has launched its debut framework detailing several new projects.

Nicoll also works as a full-time employee for another company, however, it is unknown which. According to Nicoll, his leaving the foundation is not absolute as there is “further complication” with his employer entering the blockchain space. “I’m handing over everything I can to the Dogecoin Foundation. I will be remaining as an advisor to the Foundation, to enable transition,” he wrote in a blog post.

The chief developer also spoke on the number of threats that the foundation continues to face. Last year, there were several entities registering trademarks for Dogecoin by claiming they were Dogecoin, without having anything to do with the cryptocurrency.

“External parties we had never heard of managed to get articles published which referred to them as Dogecoin developers. In the summer of 2021, there was a potential lawsuit against the developers from someone who claimed we were responsible for their funds,” Nicoll said.
