Don Quijote Store in the Philippines Still a Long-Term Goal, Says DTI

Filipino fans of Japan’s famous discount chain Don Quijote—known locally as “Donki”—will have to wait a bit longer. According to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the possibility of Donki opening in the Philippines remains a “long-term consideration.”

Trade Secretary Cristina Roque recently met with executives of Pan Pacific International Holdings Corp. (PPIH), the parent company of Don Quijote and Don Don Donki, during her Tokyo visit. While no immediate plans to launch a store in the Philippines were confirmed, PPIH expressed strong interest in expanding the presence of Filipino-made products across its global retail network, especially in Japan, the U.S., and other Asian markets.

The meeting focused on increasing direct sourcing of Philippine products such as food, wellness items, eco-friendly home goods, and unique lifestyle merchandise. PPIH also showed enthusiasm for building direct ties with Filipino exporters and manufacturers.

The DTI noted that although store expansion in the Philippines isn’t yet on the horizon, a successful sourcing partnership could influence future decisions.

“We’re committed to promoting Filipino products worldwide, and partners like PPIH help us get there,” said Roque.
