The Department of Transportation (DOTr) launched its Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS) in Central Luzon (Region III) with 16 modern Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) units.

The Central Luzon route runs through Arayat-San Fernando via Sta. Ana, Mexico, is the third pilot launch out of the 11 pilot launches of the AFCS National Standards (NS).

The NS is an interoperability project between the government and private sector to digitize the country’s public transportation.

The program will revolutionize the road-based transport system of the country, says Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region III Regional Director Nasrudin Talipasan.

“In this highly competitive world, we need to speed up and adapt to digitalization, automation, and modernization,” Nasrudin added.

“The program will ensure faster, safer, and more convenient public transportation for Filipinos,” Carmexxs Jeepney Transport Service Cooperative Chairman Raul Dalaquit said. “We just hope all of our units will be equipped with AFCS devices.”
