The Department of Transportation (DoTr) is scheduled to award the last three contract packages of the Metro Maila Subway Project by Q3.
DoTr Undersecretary Cesar B. Chavez has stated that contract packages 105, 108, and 109, with approximate costs of around ₱20 billion per package, are said to be awarded by the “second or third quarter” of 2023.
The building of two underground stations nearing Camp Aguinaldo and Anonas, as well as tunnels that fall under contract package 103 started recently after a groundbreaking ceremony at the military headquarters located in Quezon City.
For the six-kilometer stretch connecting Pasig City and Quezon City, Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co. Ltd is scheduled to complete the project in six years.
Meanwhile, for the East Avenue and Quezon Avenue stations, the DoTr has said that it would break ground in March of this year.
“We have talked with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development and National Housing Authority… It’s just that the contract for (package) 103 was earlier but we will start with (contract package) 102 next month),” said Chavez.
The 33-kilometer subway worth over ₱357 billion will go through Valenzuela City to FTI-Bicutan in Parañaque City, with a line to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 located in Pasay City.
The Japanese government is providing funding for the Metro Manila subway through official development assistance.
For DoTr Secretary has mentioned that this subway project is still scheduled to hit its 2028 target completion dates despite issues concerning right-of-way for parts of the subway line.
“There could be partial operations for the first stations, from Valenzuela up to Ortigas. But we will try to finish the project by 2028,” said Bautista.
