The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has found that 43 stores violated the price freeze currently in effect in areas under a state of calamity due to recent floods and adverse weather conditions. According to a report by Bernadette Reyes on Unang Balita, 370 products were also discovered to be priced above the suggested retail prices (SRP).
The DTI has issued notices of violation to these retail outlets, demanding explanations for the discrepancies. Acting DTI Secretary Maria Cristina Roque recently conducted inspections at the Guadalupe market and a grocery store to ensure compliance with the SRP.
The price freeze, which is intended to help consumers manage their budgets and prevent unwarranted price hikes, will remain in effect until September 24. The National Capital Region (NCR) is among the areas under a state of calamity due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and Super Typhoon Carina last month.
