DTI Partners With Unionbank and Singaporean Firm for Digital Transformation Plans

The Union Bank of the Philippines Inc (UBP) and the Global Learning Solutions Pte. Ltd. (GLS) has been approved by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for their digital transformation program.

The DTI has stated that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the two parties “to intensify collaboration on digital transformation.” The MOUs were signed after the UBP Innovation Campus inauguration.

“DTI puts science, technology, and innovation at the heart of the country’s industrial policy to grow and develop globally competitive and innovative industries and achieve sustainable, inclusive, and resilient industrial transformation,”  said DTI Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual.

Pascual added that “We are grateful to [UBP] and the [GLS] for partnering with DTI in making the vision for the country’s twin innovation facilities possible,”

The DTI has mentioned that the agreement mandates the operation and establishment of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research or “Cair” and the Industry 4.0 Pilot Factory, or “I4PF.”

According to the DTI, Cair is one of its initiatives to transform the Philippines into an AI “Center of Excellence” and will be vital in increasing the artificial intelligence contribution to the economy.

The AI Center will likewise be a hub where researchers and data scientists can collaborate on AI research and development (R&D). To complement Cair, the I4PF will host pilot demonstrations and learning laboratories for relevant technologies which include cyber-physical systems, intelligent manufacturing, and robotics.

The agreement also sets the DTI as the spearhead for these activities among the parties involved.
