Employers Encouraged to Help Workers Adapt to AI

With artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly advancing, employers are being urged to assist employees in embracing AI technologies to secure their jobs and enhance workplace productivity. This was the consensus at the second HR & Workplace Summit Philippines held on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

AI as a Workplace Ally

“Make AI your partner. When employees see AI as a tool to enhance their work rather than a threat to job security, it alleviates fears,” said Agela Fleta, head of talent acquisition at ride-hailing app Angkas.

RL Fernando Garcia, Human Resources Head at Brittany Hotels and Leisure, emphasized focusing on progress rather than perfection when integrating AI. “Continuous improvement should be the goal,” Garcia said, urging businesses to explore impactful AI and automation projects.

Addressing Employee Fears

Summit moderator Angelina Mukhi of Institutional Synergy Inc. highlighted how innovation often causes fear among employees, leading to resistance against new initiatives.

AI, which mimics human abilities like learning, decision-making, and creativity, has the potential to transform workplaces but requires companies to cultivate the right mindset and culture.

Karlo Jay Plata, Netflix’s country HR business partner, shared the company’s “freedom and responsibility” approach, which empowers employees with the autonomy to innovate. “It’s about prioritizing people over process while ensuring they understand their goals and have the tools to succeed,” Plata explained.

Conclusion

Experts agree that companies must actively guide employees through technological changes like AI to foster growth, innovation, and job security.
