Thanks to containment efforts and recovery programs by the government, hog raisers affected by ASF have bounced back, stabilizing the pork supply chain.

Currently, the price range for lechon in La Loma spans from P6,000 to P15,000, varying based on size and preparation. This range is set to increase, prompting customers like Boyet Santos, who uphold the tradition of featuring lechon in festive feasts, to start saving early in anticipation of the price hike. For many Filipinos, the presence of lechon is synonymous with festive joy, a sentiment echoed by Santos who emphasizes the cultural significance of having lechon during these celebrations.

The price increase is not limited to lechon. Ham, another staple in Filipino festive meals, has also seen a rise in costs. A renowned ham store in Quiapo, Manila, has implemented a P20 markup on all ham varieties. The traditional Christmas ham, a favorite among consumers, now costs P1,660. With Christmas and New Year drawing closer, there is speculation about further price increases, adding to the financial considerations of holiday shoppers.
