ARC is a tabletop RPG created by Bianca Canoza a.k.a momatoes, a Filipina game designer and artist. It revolves around players attempting to stop a Doom — a catastrophic event that threatens to end the world. The players can decide what the nature of this Doom will be.
On June 1, 2021, ARC went live on Kickstarter to help gather funds for the game. Just 23 minutes after the campaign was put up, it was already able to reach its target funding goal of $7,000.
At the moment, ARC has already gathered over 1,200 backers and received funding that’s just a little over $50,000. This makes it among the most successful Kickstarter campaigns for a tabletop RPG made by a Filipino, or even a Southeast Asian for that matter.
“ARC is a collaborative storytelling game where players create custom hero characters that interact with an imaginary world narrated by a facilitator player called the Guide,” said its creator momatoes.
Players will also have to play each session of ARC with a sense of urgency that will be unique to the game. “What sets ARC apart from other tabletop RPGs is its use of a real-life timer that ticks down throughout the game,” she added.
ARC will also come with three additional adventure modules that will be able to showcase more Filipino and Southeast Asian talents thanks to its excess funding.
Two of the modules will be designed by Pamela Punzalan and BJ Recio, both Filipino game designers. The third is expected to come from Shao Han, part of Singaporean tabletop gaming company Curious Chimera. All three modules will also present artworks from Nina Martinez, Benedict “Benedir” Reyna, and Danielle Florendo, Filipino illustrators from Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan.
ARC’s Kickstarter campaign will last until June 30. The tabletop RPG will be published and managed by Exalted Funeral.
