Filipino nurses in the UK were commended by Queen Elizabeth II for their outstanding work during the coronavirus response. The praise came as part of the monarch’s message to President Duterte celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“They bring exceptional care and comfort to their patients,” said Queen Elizabeth II referring to the Filipino nurses under Britain’s National Health Service. “I wanted to express my sincerest gratitude for their work, especially in response to the coronavirus,” she added.

Just over the past month, Prince Charles also recognized Filipino frontliners in the UK regarding them as “wonderfully selfless people” and that they offered a “remarkable contribution” in navigating through the challenges of the pandemic.

“To these wonderfully selfless people I wanted to offer my most heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care and comfort you give to your patients. You have made a truly remarkable contribution to the health and well-being of so many people across the country at such a difficult time,” he expressed further.

In response, the UK has particularly been giving aid to the Philippines to support the country’s efforts against the pandemic through securing equitable vaccine distribution.

Filipino nurse Charito Romano also became the recipient of a British Empire Medal which was bestowed upon her by Queen Elizabeth II during the New Year honors on January 2. It was for her outstanding work at Arbrook House Care Home in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic.
