According to the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), the fish unloading volumes of the country decreased in the eight regional fish port complexes last August due to the typhoons that hit the Philippines.

The PFDA says that the regional fish ports experienced three tropical depressions and one super typhoon that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Due to this, fish loading volumes went down to 48,096 metric tons (MT), or by 14%

Of the eight fish ports, five were noted to have increased deliveries while the other three were greatly affected by the inclement weather.

The General Santos Fish Port Complex reported an increase of 4.32% with deliveries amounting to 23,034.02 MT.

In the Davao Gulf, fishing season reopened which allowed the Davao Fish Port Complex to hit almost triple its monthly unloading volume to 2,393.83 MT.

The Sual Fish Port and the Zamboanga Fish Port Complex noted increases this month compared to last month, with a 36.25% and 12.8% rise respectively. This accounts for 422.03 MT and 560.28 MT.

The Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) has also recovered despite the rains and weather with a 5.3% increase or 2,073.47 MT of fish.

The Navotas Fish Port Complex experienced a decrease in the monthly unloading volume but still maintained the second highest volume with 16,702.629 MT.

The Bulan Fish Port Complex and Lucena Fish Port Complex both reported a decrease in the monthly unloading volumes, citing month-long heavy rains and strong winds.

Lucena port came up with 2,162.88 MT while the Bulan port delivered 746.87 MT.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is predicted a favorable trend in fish supply and a stable price of fish by the end of 2022.
