Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki Dies at 56, Google CEO Says

Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube and one of Google’s earliest employees, has died at the age of 56 after a two-year battle with cancer, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced on social media platform X on Saturday.

“Unbelievably saddened by the loss of my dear friend Susan Wojcicki after two years of living with cancer. She is as core to the history of Google as anyone, and it’s hard to imagine the world without her,” Pichai wrote in a heartfelt post.

Wojcicki, a prominent figure in the tech industry, stepped down from her role at YouTube in 2023 after leading the platform for nine years. She was instrumental in shaping YouTube into the global powerhouse it is today.

Her husband, Dennis Troper, shared his grief on Facebook: “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki’s passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer.”

Susan Wojcicki’s contributions to Google and YouTube have left an indelible mark on the tech industry, making her one of the most influential women in the field.
