The country’s mobile wallet giant GCash is set to introduce a new remittance feature in an effort to bolster its money transfer services. It also plans to make this innovation available to non-GCash users.

GCash Padala will allow Filipinos to receive remittances anywhere in the country, even without an e-wallet account. This will greatly reduce the time and money to physically visit a remittance center.

“GCash Padala is one way of making our services available to those who have not yet downloaded the GCash app,” expressed GCash chief customer officer Winsley Bangit. He hopes that this new feature will help lessen the reluctance of non-Gcash users to utilize fintech.

GCash has entered into partnerships with remittance outlets as well as local sari-sari stores to reach all the way down to the barangay level. Individuals will only need to show one valid ID to receive their remittances.

“With GCash, anyone can not only send and receive money, but also buy autoload and pay their bills online. You can transmit and take out cash anytime through your neighborhood sari-sari store owner who have a GCash application on his or her smartphone,” Bangit elaborated.

The service fees for GCash Padala can go as low as one percent for a minimum remittance of ₱500. Compared to banks and other authorized money transfer outlets, this fee is significantly cheaper.

“Our reasonable fees for processing remittances through GCash Padala can hopefully help us stay competitive in the financial services market,” added Bangit.
