GCash Users Complain of Lost Funds; E-Wallet Platform Assures Correction Efforts

Numerous GCash users reported unauthorized withdrawals from their accounts on Saturday, taking to social media to express frustration. Kapuso comedienne Pokwang shared that nearly 30 unregistered phone numbers accessed her funds, prompting her to question the effectiveness of the SIM Registration Act, which was intended to reduce cybercrimes.

Digital advocacy group Digital Pinoys has urged GCash to immediately return the lost funds to affected users, stressing that the issue has been ongoing. Ronald Gustilo, the group’s national campaigner, called for the Department of Information and Communications Technology to investigate and penalize GCash if found negligent, noting that e-wallets do not offer the same security and insurance as banks.

In response, GCash stated that a “system reconciliation process” error had affected a limited number of users. The platform assured users that their accounts remain safe, with wallet adjustments underway to rectify any discrepancies.
