Globe Telecom Inc. has issued a warning about a new voice phishing (vishing) scam where fraudsters impersonate officials from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). Scammers call victims, falsely claiming that their mobile numbers have been linked to illegal activities. They then attempt to extort money by threatening arrest if the victims do not comply.
“Criminals prey on our natural respect for authority, using it as a weapon to deceive and manipulate,” said Globe’s Chief Information Security Officer, Anton Bonifacio. He urged customers to stay vigilant and avoid falling victim to these tactics.
Globe advises customers to be cautious with unsolicited calls, avoid sharing personal or financial information over the phone, and report any suspicious calls to authorities. The company is also working with the National Task Force (NTF) to block scam-related numbers and crack down on fraudulent activities.
