Grab Launches First Fully Electric Taxi Fleet in Metro Manila

Grab Philippines has launched GrabTaxi Electric, the country’s first fully electric, app-based taxi fleet approved by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). The eco-friendly fleet is being deployed in partnership with EV Taxi Corp. and will initially operate in major Metro Manila areas such as Makati, Taguig, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Parañaque, and Pasay.

Currently in its beta phase, GrabTaxi Electric is available through the Transport tab of the Grab app. Passenger and driver feedback during this rollout will help shape future service enhancements and fleet expansion.

This launch builds on Grab’s 2024 pilot with BYD Philippines, which showed that electric vehicles (EVs) can be both economically and operationally viable for drivers and operators.

“This isn’t just a new transport option—it’s a step toward transforming urban mobility,” said Grab Philippines country head Ronald Roda. “Sustainability must be something you can ride today.”

Grab also plans to expand EV adoption to other cities, including Davao and Cagayan de Oro, as part of its broader eco-mobility strategy.

EV Taxi Corp. president Frankie Ang highlighted the power of collaboration: “Our partnership with Grab shows how global and local efforts can drive real change for greener, more inclusive transportation.”
