Kantar, global data analytics and brand consulting group, revealed that Filipino consumers are taking steps toward becoming more responsible shoppers in their 2020 report titled, “Who Cares, Who Does?”
The study showed that 75% of Filipino consumers prefer sustainable and eco-friendly brands, believing the products to be more healthful, better for their well-being, and in support of the local economy. 55% of Filipinos, however, found it difficult to be environmentally friendly because alternatives were either hard to find or more expensive.
The study also showed that 54% of C2DE households, or those from skilled-working, working, and non-working classes, took consistent steps or at least some actions in reducing their environmental impact.
Moreover, 36% of Filipino households believe that manufacturers can make the biggest difference in the country’s move toward sustainability by either increasing their eco-friendly offerings or educating the public.
“Sustainability is an important topic and the pandemic has put an emphasis on the importance of health and wellness for consumers. Based on our research, there is huge potential for the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry in the Philippines to apply more environmental practices as more Filipino shoppers are ready to embrace sustainable living and support eco-friendly brands,” said Marie-Anne Lezoraine, General Manager of the Worldpanel Division, Kantar Philippines.
