LRT1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 Nears Completion with 98.2% Progress

The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) Cavite Extension Project Phase 1 is edging closer to its anticipated commercial operations set for the fourth quarter of 2024. As of the end of April, the project is 98.2% complete, according to Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) General Manager Enrico Benipayo.

Project Overview:

• Completion Status: The final terminal, Dr. Santos Station, is 97.7% complete. Other stations are also nearing completion: Redemptorist Station (97.4%), MIA Station (97.2%), Asia World Station (90.4%), and Ninoy Aquino Station (93.5%).
• Extension Details: Phase 1 extends the existing Line 1 by 6.2 kilometers and includes five additional stations within Parañaque City.

Significant Features:

• Dr. Santos Station: This station, spanning 10,740 square meters, will function as an intermodal transport hub with facilities for public buses, jeepneys, taxis, private cars, motorcycles, and dedicated parking for PWDs.
• Fare Structure: The fare for the extension will follow the existing LRT1 fare matrix, with a boarding fare of P13.29 and a distance fare allowing up to a minimum amount, consistent with the current LRT1 and LRT2 fare systems.

Inspection and Support: Transportation officials and executives, including Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, inspected the Dr. Santos Station. The delegation also included representatives from the Department of Finance, Public Works and Highways, Metro Manila Development Authority, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Impact: The Phase 1 Extension Project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and serve up to 600,000 passengers daily, marking a crucial enhancement in Metro Manila’s public transportation infrastructure.
