LWUA to Lead Probe into PrimeWater Services After Marcos Orders Investigation

The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) announced on Friday that it will spearhead the investigation into alleged service delivery issues involving PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp., following a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In a statement, LWUA affirmed its readiness to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into mounting complaints. The agency also called on all local water districts (LWDs) with joint venture agreements (JVAs) to submit their contracts and latest performance reviews.

LWUA Administrator Jose Moises Salonga explained that while the agency was not a signatory to these JVAs—many of which began between 2013 and 2019—it retains full oversight and regulatory authority over LWDs. The review will focus on identifying breaches in service standards, compliance gaps, and issues within the contracts’ enforcement mechanisms.

LWUA Chairman Ronnie Ong emphasized the agency’s commitment to upholding the rights of Filipinos to clean and reliable water, stating they would work with all stakeholders to implement the President’s directive with “transparency, integrity, and urgency.”

In response, PrimeWater expressed its willingness to cooperate and welcomed the opportunity for dialogue. The company also reiterated its commitment to addressing service challenges, particularly in underserved areas, and ensuring long-term improvements.
