Majority of Filipino Babies were Born by Single Mothers in 2019

The data on “Registered Live Births in the Philippines” released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that of the 1.67 million live births in 2019, 917,242 or 54.8% were born to single mothers.

“Eleven regions reported at least half of its registered births in 2019 to single mothers, led by Eastern Visayas region (66.4%), National Capital Region (66.2%) and Davao region (59.1%),” the PSA added. “On the other hand, ARMM [Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao] recorded the highest proportion of births to married couples at 95.2%”

The data showed that of the babies born to mothers who are under 15 years old, 95.9% were born to single mothers.

Of those born to mothers aged between 15 years old and 19 years old, 89.4% were born to single mothers.

Of those born to mothers aged between 20 years old to 24 years old, 71.6% were born to single mothers.
