Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso hopes to help the victims of Typhoon Odette to begin rebuilding their homes and lives after the recent calamity. In this light, he has urged the Insurance Commission, a government arm under the Department of Finance, to quicken the processing of insurance claims.
(“I call on the Insurance Commission to expedite the processing of insurance claims to help our countrymen who were victims of Typhoon Odette. Their homes and businesses are ruined, so insurance companies need to act fast.”)
(“And our government that we rely on must act quickly and the insurance companies must be able to give the claim of the victims immediately because life is very difficult in the area that Odette destroyed. This will provide assistance to families whose homes and businesses have been damaged in their areas.”)
Aside from the Insurance Commission, the Manila mayor and presidential aspirant is also looking to assist farmers and fisherfolk who were affected by Typhoon Odette. Moreno has also appealed to the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), noting how damages to crops are more overwhelming, especially for farmers.
(“The government must have a program to give peace to our countrymen because our country is sure to always have disasters.”)
Typhoon Odette first made landfall in the country on Thursday across various provinces in Visayas and Mindanao. It is also widely considered to be the most destructive typhoon to have hit the country following Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. Relief operations in severely affected areas continued to be carried out in an effort to help victims, particularly as the holiday season continues to draw nearer.
