Marcos: Balingoan Port Expansion to Boost Tourism and Economy in Misamis Oriental

BALINGOAN, MISAMIS ORIENTAL – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed confidence that the recently inaugurated Balingoan Port expansion project will strengthen tourism, commerce, and the local economy in Northern Mindanao.

Speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday, Marcos emphasized that the upgraded port will improve livelihoods by facilitating smoother travel and encouraging business growth. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment not just to expanding ports but maintaining them for safe, efficient travel.

The expanded port now features a two-storey Operations Building with modern amenities and 500-seat capacity, upgraded passenger lounges, ticket counters, concessionaire areas, and restrooms. Its 10,832-square-meter backup area enhances cargo handling, storage, and logistics.

Additionally, a new gate complex is under construction to improve security and ease congestion by streamlining traffic flow.

The Philippine Ports Authority noted the port can now accommodate up to six RoRo vessels at once, reducing long queues of vehicles bound for Camiguin Island, a key tourist destination in the region.
