Marcos Encourages Filipinos to Promote Local Products Through Social Media Selfies

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called on Filipinos to harness the power of social media to boost the visibility and sales of locally produced goods. Speaking at an event in Iligan City where assistance was distributed to farmers and fisherfolk, Marcos emphasized the role of social media in supporting the country’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

A Simple Yet Impactful Strategy

Marcos urged the public to take selfies with local products and share them on social media platforms. This initiative aims to increase the exposure of Philippine products and highlight the unique offerings from various regions.

“Dito sa Iligan, alam kong sikat na pasalubong ang toasted peanut at palapa. Kaya kung mayroon kayong dala diyan, picturan ninyo. Mag-selfie kayo kasama ng produkto tapos i-post ninyo sa social media,” Marcos said. (Here in Iligan, I know that toasted peanut and palapa are very famous. If you bring one, take a selfie with the product and post it on social media.)

He added, “Simpleng bagay lang, pero napakalaking tulong niyan upang makilala at maipagmalaki ang inyong mga produkto at inyong lugar, lalo na at usong-uso ngayon ang social media sa karamihan sa atin ngayon.” (It’s a simple thing but this will greatly help us to promote our local products. Besides, social media is very famous right now.)

Supporting MSMEs Through Government Initiatives

Marcos highlighted the efforts of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in providing support to MSMEs through Negosyo centers and Shared Service Facilities. These programs offer vital assistance to improve the operations and competitiveness of small businesses.

Since last year, more than 3,000 MSMEs in Northern Mindanao have received aid, demonstrating the government’s commitment to fostering a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Role of Social Media in Promoting Local Products

Social media platforms have become an essential tool for marketing and promotion, especially for small businesses that may lack the resources for extensive advertising campaigns. By encouraging Filipinos to share their experiences with local products, the initiative aims to create a ripple effect that can significantly enhance the visibility of these goods.

The Power of Selfies in Marketing

Taking selfies with products and posting them online is a form of user-generated content that can serve as powerful testimonials. This type of marketing is often more relatable and trustworthy to potential customers compared to traditional advertising methods. When people see their friends or acquaintances endorsing a product, they are more likely to consider purchasing it themselves.

A Boost for Local Economies

This simple act of sharing selfies can contribute to the economic growth of local communities. Increased awareness and demand for local products can lead to higher sales, which in turn supports local producers and their families. It also encourages a sense of pride in regional specialties and traditions.

Conclusion

President Marcos’s call to action underscores the importance of community involvement in promoting local businesses. By leveraging the widespread use of social media, Filipinos can play a crucial role in boosting the visibility and success of MSMEs across the country. This initiative not only aids small businesses but also fosters a culture of support and pride in Philippine-made products.
