Marcos: PH Tourism Made ‘Impressive Recovery’ After COVID-19 Pandemic

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. praised the remarkable rebound of the Philippine tourism industry in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic during the inauguration of Solaire Resort North in Quezon City.

Marcos highlighted the sector’s significant progress, noting that the hospitality industry has faced the challenge of a travel resurgence with great success. “The Philippine tourism and hospitality industry have made an impressive recovery,” he said.

Tourism Statistics and Growth

In 2023, the Philippines welcomed 5.45 million inbound tourists, more than doubling the 2.65 million visitors recorded in 2022. This surge marks a significant step toward revitalizing the nation’s tourism sector.

Solaire Resort North: A New Milestone

The President expressed his enthusiasm for the opening of Solaire Resort North, emphasizing its potential as a transformative player in the global hospitality industry. “Solaire Resort North features not only first-class amenities but also world-class Filipino talent, further raising the country’s image on the international stage,” Marcos stated.

The resort, which employs over 4,000 Filipinos, includes rooms, suites, restaurants, bars, and gaming areas. Marcos noted that the gaming industry has been pivotal in providing employment and generating substantial government revenues.

Economic and Social Contributions

The gaming sector’s contributions extend beyond employment. Revenues from gaming ventures have funded operations of key government agencies, such as the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, the Philippine Sports Commission, and the Dangerous Drugs Board. These funds support crucial programs, including Universal Health Care, Early Childhood Care and Development, Integrated Sports Development, cultural endowments, and drug rehabilitation centers.

President Marcos expressed confidence in Solaire Resort North’s potential to elevate the successes of the tourism and gaming sectors to new heights, further boosting the Philippine economy and empowering its workforce.
