Fast-food giant McDonald’s Philippines is looking to vaccinate close to 90% of its employees “as soon as possible” in its efforts of combatting the ongoing pandemic. However, the government will also have to play a vital supporting role to make this a reality, said McDo PH managing director Margot Torres.
“Our target is that 90 percent of our employees and crew are vaccinated,” affirmed Torres. “We want this soonest the better but we are dependent on the supply,” she added.
The firm had already ordered thousands of vaccine doses for its employees, but these are yet to arrive in the country towards the latter half of the year. In this light, McDo PH has encouraged its employees to take part in the vaccination programs of their respective local government units (LGUs).
“We are waiting for our orders to arrive,” explained Torres. “But while waiting, we believe that the best vaccines are the ones that are available.”
To kick off the vaccination of the A4 category in the country’s vaccination framework, McDonald’s Philippines was among the firms that joined the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ (IATF-EID) ceremonial inoculation.
Torres is optimistic that they will be able to return to normal operations by 2022 or 2023. The willingness of their employees to get vaccinated has risen to 95%. Additionally, 98% of their branches nationwide are already operational. This is a significant jump from the 93% reported in June of last year.
“We are on track. The business this year is much better than last year and we also have the right strategy,” said Torres.
McDo PH is also among the private companies that are offering a 10% discount for fully vaccinated customers to boost their business operations.
