Megaworld Corp. is partnering up with De La Salle University (DLSU) to establish a data science institute that will offer tertiary programs, training, and professional courses.

The Dr. Andrew L. Tan Data Science Institute (ALTDSI) aims to “train the next generation workforce of data scientists, particularly professionals in the BPO (business process outsourcing) industry,” contribute to the growth of different business sectors and help the country become the ASEAN region’s leading data science hub.

The programs will focus on what they call “human capacity building” and “value creation.”

“There is a huge demand for knowledge outsource professionals who can help businesses and industries grow exponentially. This partnership with DLSU to build the ALTDSI is just the first step in tapping into this huge potential,” said Kevin Andrew L. Tan, Megaworld’s Chief Strategy Officer.

The ALTDSI will be located at Megaworld’s McKinley Hill Cyberpark development in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Megaworld is donating the facilities for the institute and DLSU faculty-researchers and visiting professors will coordinate the programs.

The institute was launched via a virtual ceremony on July 21 and saw the shaking of hands, a signed memorandum of agreement, and the exchange of glass plaques.

Shares of Megaworld on Wednesday declined by 3.67% or 11 centavos to close at 2.89 each.
