Meralco Lowers June 2025 Household Power Rates by 11 Centavos per kWh

Electricity bills are going down again this June for Meralco customers, as the power distributor rolls out another rate cut—this time by ₱0.11 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

This marks the second consecutive month of reductions, translating to a savings of around ₱22 for typical households using 200 kWh. Meralco’s overall rate drops to ₱12.1552 per kWh from ₱12.2628 in May.

According to Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga, the decrease is mainly due to a lower generation charge, which fell by ₱0.1099 per kWh. This drop was driven by lower costs from Power Supply Agreements (PSAs), Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), despite a slight increase in transmission charges.

Specifically:

  • PSA charges fell by ₱0.3699 per kWh

  • IPP charges dropped ₱0.1034 per kWh

  • WESM charges decreased ₱0.6342 per kWh due to improved supply conditions

These sources supplied 48%, 33%, and 18% respectively of Meralco’s energy needs.

Transmission charges, however, increased by ₱0.0214 per kWh due to higher ancillary service fees. Other charges, including taxes, declined by ₱0.0191 per kWh, helping balance the total bill.

Meralco highlighted that its distribution charge has remained unchanged since August 2022, and customers continue to benefit from a distribution-related true-up adjustment that reduces rates by ₱0.2024 per kWh.

Meralco also reminded eligible customers—particularly 4Ps beneficiaries and senior citizens—to apply for the Lifeline Rate and senior discount programs to receive further reductions on their electric bills.
