Meralco will proceed with negotiations for its 200-MW baseload energy requirement after an unsuccessful pass on the second round of the Competitive Selection Process (CSP) for Solar Philippine Batangas Baseload Corp’s (SPBBC) unsolicited proposal.
SPBBC will provide the energy using solar and battery in compliance with Meralco’s Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) requirement.
The Meralco Third-Party Bids and Awards Committee (TPBAC) reported that it did not receive any competitive bids from any competitor during the bid submission deadline on Jan. 10.
The TPBAC added that since no one disputed the first and second rounds of any competitive challenge for the contract, the distribution utility may now enter into direct negotiation for the contract capacity requirement, as provided by the revised CSP Rules.
Additionally, SPBBC offers a 20-year contract starting in 2024 for ₱4.65 per kWh at a 100% capacity factor.
After the negotiations, Meralco will enter into a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with the original proposal and seek regulatory approval for the contract.
