Metro Pacific Water Solutions (MPWS), a subsidiary of Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Water, has joined forces with Japanese conglomerate Hitachi Ltd. to enhance wastewater management in the Philippines.
The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between MPWS and Hitachi Asia Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. Under the agreement, the two companies will explore and implement projects aimed at improving wastewater treatment in the country.
Key initiatives include:
Currently, only 10% of the Philippines’ wastewater undergoes treatment. With the government aiming to increase coverage to 80% by 2028, the collaboration between MPWS and Hitachi Asia is a timely response to this pressing issue.
“This partnership with Hitachi Asia is an exciting step toward addressing wastewater challenges in the Philippines,” said MPWS President Christopher Andrew Pangilinan.
Hitachi Asia Ltd. COO Chay Wee Tang echoed the sentiment, highlighting the importance of reliable access to clean water.
“At Hitachi, we are committed to innovating for a better, more inclusive future. This partnership will help ensure sustainable water solutions,” he said.
The partnership between MPWS and Hitachi aims to boost the sustainability and effectiveness of advanced water and wastewater treatment management, addressing critical water resource challenges across the Philippines.
As the country works toward its ambitious 2028 wastewater treatment goals, this collaboration is poised to play a significant role in achieving cleaner water and improved sanitation.
