Customers are inclined to pay monthly subscription fees for streaming services and restaurant chains are following suit.

Big companies such as P.F. Chang’s and Panera, along with local hangout spots are looking into testing out the subscription model to stabilize revenue and customer visits. Several would offer free delivery or unlimited drinks for a fee per month while a few would serve appetizers per visit.

According to the personal finance app, Rocket Money, the average American had 6.7 subscriptions in 2022, which was an increase from 4.2 back in 2019.

“This is just another way for customers to provide a level of support and joy and love for our offerings,”  mentioned Matt Baker, a chef at Gravitas, which is a Michelin-star restaurant located in Chicago.

The Gravitas Supper Club subscribers enjoy a three-course takeout meal for two for $130 a month. According to Baker, Gravitas moved to takeout orders at the height of the pandemic but experienced a demand decrease after indoor dining reopened.

Chinese chain P.F. Chang likewise saw an opportunity to drive takeout orders with the subscription plan launched in September 2022. For a monthly fee of $6.99 per month, members can avail of free delivery and other benefits.

San Francisco Bar, El Lopo, has 26 members participating in their Take-Care-Of-Me-Club. Customers pay for $89 per month for $100 in dining credits or $175 per month for $200 in credits.

El Lopo’s owner, Daniel Azarkman began the club in March 2021 to entice patrons to return with the reopening of the pandemic and lifting of restrictions.
