MPT South Targets Completion of Calax Right-of-Way Acquisition This Year

MANILA, Philippines — MPT South Management Corp., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), is focused on acquiring the remaining right-of-way (ROW) needed to complete the 44.57-kilometer Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax) within this year.

MPT South President Raul Ignacio expressed their goal to secure the ROW balance soon, aiming to finish the tollway construction by the third quarter of next year.

“We’re still working on the right of way but it is progressing,” Ignacio said.

Currently, 76 percent of the ROW for Calax subsection 1, which includes the Kawit and Open Canal interchanges, is complete. Subsection 2, linking Open Canal to Governor’s Drive, is 71 percent finished.

“Subsection 3 is practically 100 percent already,” Ignacio added, referring to the segment connecting Governor’s Drive and Silang (Aguinaldo) interchanges.

Calax is designed to connect Cavitex with the South Luzon Expressway. The Laguna segment is already operational, and the Governor’s Drive interchange in General Trias is expected to open this year.

MPT South has allocated P11.95 billion in capital expenditures to complete the entire Calax stretch and the 7.7-kilometer Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) C-5 Link by 2025.

Cavitex C-5 Link facilitates travel from Makati and Taguig to Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Cavite. Currently operational segments include Segment 3A-1 (C5 Link Flyover from C5 Road to Merville) and Segment 3A-2 (C5 Link Flyover Extension). Segment 3B, linking Cavitex in Parañaque with C5 Road in Taguig, is under construction.

Last year, MPT South signed an agreement with San Miguel Corp. to design, build, and operate the 88-kilometer Cavite-Batangas Expressway and Nasugbu-Bauan Expressway. These toll roads will traverse several towns in Cavite and link motorists to Nasugbu and Bauan in Batangas.

MPTC’s portfolio also includes the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx), NLEx Connector, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
