The Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) project, which will connect Bulacan and Quezon City, is moving steadily towards completion, having reached an overall progress rate of 69.86% as of April 2024, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista expressed his satisfaction with the project’s pace, particularly the construction of the Quezon City leg, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. “I am very much impressed with how San Miguel Infrastructure has constructed all the facilities,” Bautista said.
Bautista, along with San Miguel Holdings Corp. vice president and chief finance officer Raoul Romulo, inspected the MRT-7 depot at Station 6 (Batasan Station) on May 23. The first 12 stations of MRT-7 are targeted to be operational by December 2025, with the final station, Caloocan-Tala, slated to open a year later.

The San Jose del Monte (SJDM) leg of the project might face delays due to local government concerns about traffic congestion and service disruptions. The SJDM LGU has proposed realigning the railway to mitigate these issues, as the current route follows Quirino Highway, a major thoroughfare.
“We have also forwarded options where this essential project can push through while also ensuring that the general welfare of the people of San Jose Del Monte is met,” said SJDM Mayor Arthur Robes.
