The NFT project Rumble Kong has taken the basketball world and NBA by storm. Formally known as The Rumble Kong League (RKL), the collection features 10,000 NFTs called Kongs. World-renowned basketball professionals have taken an interest in the project. Some of the names include Stephen Curry, Paul George, Tyrese Haliburton, Andre Iguodala, Josh Hart, Hassan Whiteside, Gary Payton II, Cole Anthony, Damion Lee, JaVale McGee, and Malik Beasley.
RKL has distinguished itself from other NFT projects by offering its holders ambitious and experimental opportunities. For example, players can participate and compete in leagues and tournaments, own and manage teams, buy fashion collectibles for their Kongs, and even breed their Kongs to create new NFTs. The video game itself hasn’t launched, however, it is expected to release this year and will center around 3-on-3 gameplay.
It appears that these NFTs will act as the holder’s character in-game as they are assigned statistics such as Shooting, Defense, Vision, and Finishing. While traders hold their Kongs the community continues to grow as the @Rumblekongs Twitter account has over 40,000 followers. Since the collection debuted last June, the trade volume has reached over $55 million and has been funded by CAA Sports and Paul George. The collection’s first major partnerships came from sportswear brand Under Armour and NBA star Stephen Curry where they plan to introduce digital sneakers into the game.
“Our goal is to provide a truly unique and memorable experience for sports fans within the Rumble Kong League,” said Marcus Bläsche, CEO of the Rumble Kong League. “NFTs and the Metaverse are making a huge impact in the gaming world and we aim to build the go-to sports ecosystem and push the boundaries of what is possible within the web3 space.”
