President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. inaugurated the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center in Laguna, highlighting its potential to enhance import and export operations across Southern Luzon, particularly in Bicol and CALABARZON. Located in Calamba, the facility aims to alleviate congestion in Manila while stimulating economic growth in the countryside.
As one of the country’s largest logistics centers, Maersk Optimus is expected to create thousands of jobs, providing both direct and downstream employment that could triple the number of direct jobs in the facility. “It’s a great boon to the local community,” Marcos said, underscoring the center’s impact on local employment and development.
The facility prioritizes sustainable practices, using solar power to cut grid consumption by 30% and deploying electric vehicles for last-mile deliveries. It also seeks to earn Gold Certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). With a capacity for 76,000 pallets and 75 docking bays, the distribution center is equipped with a Fleet Operational Control Centre (FOCC) to maximize trucking fleet efficiency.
Maersk Optimus will serve as a major logistics hub for industries including consumer goods, food and beverage, healthcare, automotive, and retail, providing warehousing and co-packing services tailored to various sectors.
