There are approximately 10 million Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and any information they can get regarding the circumstances of their friends or family is especially crucial within the context of the global pandemic.

This is what led a team of young Dubai-based Filipino professionals to develop “News in Bullets” which is a news aggregator app that makes relevant information and happenings easier to access. Filtering fake news is also among its features, allowing it to only provide accurate news to its users.

The app can also be personalized according to a user’s preferences on topics and sources saving them a lot of time compared to watching an entire news segment or reading about it online. All the information presented on the app is easily digestible for the readers.

“Being almost 10 hours away from home—with a four-hour difference in our time zones—is hard enough as it is as an overseas Filipino worker,” explained chief innovation officer RJ David. “Through this innovation, we hope to bring news about home closer, when home is needed the most.”

The news aggregator has received high ratings from both Google Play and App store with over 22,627 active app units for both iOS and Android smartphones. In terms of news apps, it’s been ranked #1 for Android users and #3 for iOS users.

“It’s amazing how Filipinos abroad can perfectly collaborate with diverse talents from other cultures in order to bring our common goal of delivering quality service for readers and publishers alike,” expressed chief technology officer Clarence Ancheta.

News in Bullets is open to partnering with news publications that hope to improve their online presence. Publications can also profit directly from the increased readers, and share in the advertisement revenues.

The company is also considering opening its platform to its users who want to generate their own news content as long as they comply with the app’s community guidelines.
