Queen E, the NFT project that produces pixel portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, plans to host its final auction today. The move comes following news of the recent passing of England’s monarch. QueenE first launched in July and has since offered countless tribute artworks of the late Queen over the past two months.

Its final auction will only consist of a single Ethereum NFT portrait of the late monarch. Fabio Sevá, a prominent Web3 builder, created the project along with an individual who goes by the pseudonym mladen.eth. QueenE initially planned to release a steady collection of tokens throughout the rest of the Queen’s life.

The project derives its format and code from Nouns, another Ethereum NFT project that auctions a single profile picture each day where buyers can be admitted into an exclusive club. QueenE’s auctions used to take place every few hours. It later transitioned to launching tokens once a day. “The very last gen1 QueenE (#73) is auctioning at queene.wtf. Mint is closed after that. Gen2 follows later,” tweeted the NFT project earlier today. No details have been revealed regarding the upcoming Gen2 collection as of yet. “Rest in Ethereum, forever,” expressed QueenE’s Twitter account on its bio.

The latest top bid for the final QueenE Gen1 token was at 0.5 ETH (around $825). Its top-selling token was QueenE#23, which was purchased on July 27 for 1.9ETH (approximately $3,275 at the time). Secondary sales of QueenE NFTs have since hiked after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II was announced. The current floor price at OpenSea is valued at 0.88 ETH (around $1,450).

Nouns also announced that proceeds from the primary sales of QueenE tokens will be siphoned into a treasury controlled by a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). The aforementioned treasury was last reported to contain 10.10 ETH (around $16,650). DAO members have the power to vote on proposals regarding how the funds will be used down the line. Countless Queen Elizabeth NFTs have also flooded the market since news of her passing was announced.
