Following the NFT craze of 2021 that generated $25 billion in trading volume, producers have begun developing films centered around several projects. Listed below are some of the NFT projects that will make their way to the big screen.
1. World of Women
Starring Reese Witherspoon, the movie aims to showcase this prominent women-led project in the entertainment industry. Last month, Witherspoon’s production studio, Hello Sunshine, announced plans to develop and produce movies and television shows based on Yam Karai’s World of Women NFTs.
According to Witherspoon, NFT holders will have a vote in the production of the movie based on the profile picture collection.
2. Aku
Aku is an NFT project created by the artist, Micah Johnson as it features an African-American boy that dreams of becoming an astronaut. This project was the first option for film and TV shows in April 2021 as it partnered with Anonymous Content and Permanent Content.
“What’s more powerful than allowing fans to directly have participation in the growth and expansion of that IP?” said Johnson.
3. Huxley
Last week, marvel producer Ari Arad announced plans to co0produce a film adaptation of Ben Mauro’s Ethereum NFT comic book project. Arad has said that he will be cooperating with Web3 production studio, feature, and the Oscar-nominated VFX supervisor, Jerome Chen to create this film.
Mauro was an artist for years, developing concept art for films such as Elysium and The Hobbit. He also created art for the video game industry, working with Call of Duty and Halo before getting into the NFT space. His projects have seen great success, yielding millions of dollars worth of trade volume. Huxley generally creates art with a post-apocalyptic science-fiction tone that may translate well into the big screen. However, the film’s producers have not announced whether the film will be animated or live-action.
Along with the confirmed film releases two more prominent NFT projects are said to be working with the entertainment industry. These are the CryptoPunks/Meebits project and Bored Ape Yacht Club.
Last August, Larva Labs (creators of CryptoPunks, Meebits, and Autoglyphs) signed with United Talent Agency with the hope to take its IP to Hollywood. UTA will then represent Larva in films, TV shows, video games, and more. However, it is currently unknown as to how exactly the partnership will bring the NFTs to Hollywood.
As for BAYC, Yuga Labs (its creator) signed with Guy Oseary last October to explore bringing the NFTs into film, TV, and video games. Similar to Larva Labs, there have been no further announcements with regards to these endeavors.
